Obituary

Joe was born to Rudolf and Maria Neuhold on February 8 1929 in the village of Bruck, Austria. After surviving World War II and the occupation of Austria by the Nazis and then the Red Army, he went to work in a printing shop where he further enhanced his skills at machinery maintenance and mechanical repairs. After seeing a notice that Canada was looking for technically skilled workers, he jumped at the chance at a new start and emigrated in 1953 where he began work at a farm in southwestern Ontario working in the fields and fixing the equipment.

He then moved on to a manufacturing plant in the Toronto area, where he soon spent most of his day fixing the equipment on site, in particular fork lifts and lift trucks. He finally decided to start his own business providing maintenance and repair services to companies, and spent the rest of his career travelling to various operations predominantly in the Toronto and eastern Ontario areas.

After his retirement, Joe moved to Hartsmere where he truly found himself at home. He loved fixing things, fishing, hunting, being outdoors and looking after ‘the animals’, in particular feeding the local deer and elk. He was happiest when he was doing something outdoors, and loved to travel around the property he helped maintain for the latter part of his life.

Joe was predeceased by his wife Edith in 2006, and is survived by his niece Heidemarie, his nephews Albert, Ernst and Edi, his great-niece Marina, his great-nephew Tony and their families in Austria, and many friends.
