Fall Turkey

OUTDOOR DIGEST – October 2020

FALL TURKEY

Not all Wildlife Management Units have a fall turkey hunt. To qualify a WMU must record a harvest of 200 or more birds for at least three out of the four previous years. That relied upon hunters reporting as asked. Now that hunters are obliged to report the chances of more units hosting a fall turkey hunt may well increase.

To assist the MNRF and fall turkey hunter would-bee’s the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters asked an intern with its Fish and Wildlife Department to develop a computer program that could search all available turkey harvest data to flag any WMU that meets that criteria. Such an example is WMU 72 where there are now both separate bow and gun seasons. Another benefit to mandatory reporting.
