3.. Coyote Mike O'Leary

LAFFS LIKE THAT

An Urban coyote story

While out for his constitutional Mississauga resident Alex Biron saw what he took to be a coyote on the Port Credit Village Marina docks and it appeared to be ‘trapped’. Seeking some advice he called the Toronto Wildlife Centre.

“They were concerned about how long it had been there, if it was sick…and said that they wanted to know if it could escape on it own.”

With the day’s technology, Biron ‘video taped’ his call and said he would check it out. “I think he’s in shock; he’s not moving.”

“We returned to the dock and it was still there so we called the Snug Harbour restaurant and they told us it was a fake coyote used to deter wildlife.”

It seems that the coyote decoy was placed on the dock in May of 2021 to ward off Canada geese and other waterfowl to keep the marina ‘clean’. Apparently Biron is not the first to be so fooled. People commentating applaud his good intentions and caring nature.

I grew up in Mississauga during the 50’s and 60’s. Our mailing address evolved from Toronto Township to Cooksville to Port Credit and finally to Mississauga.  We used to ride our bicycles to Cooksville to see movies at the “Roxie” movie theatre. I lived in Orchard Heights which is east of Dixie Road and south of the Queen E which was just two lanes wide. I saw Pallet’s orchards laid waste for the building of Dixie Plaza. (Ed.)
