HORNE’S LONG DISTANCE ELK
Robin Horne had a bull tag and he was hunting solo in Wildlife Management Unit 61, Harvest Area 6 in the Lingham Lake vicinity. Horne, from Brighton, has been hunting since he was 11. First it was “bird hunting and at 15 he began to hunt moose.” He stayed in Tweed and would rise at 4:00 a.m. After the rain everything quietened down he said. So he tried calling. And he got a response from far away. In short, by 7:30 a.m., a very nice 6×7 came into view. One 200 grain Hornady from his .358 Winchester did the job and soon Horne was making another long distance call. This time to his friends Butch Underhill and brothers Mike and Travis Newman whose help he most certainly needed. Given the geological nature of the area that in itself was most remarkable for cell phone connections are scant at best in the vicinity. Obviously the elk calling tips that he picked up while shopping at Chesher’s paid off. Handsomely in this 6×7 that field dressed out at 611 lbs. according to the scales at the Bancroft check station.
AND FINALLY…
Memory is that which tells a man his wedding anniversary was yesterday. (Anon).
