PROJECT FEEDER WATCH

T’is that time of year once again when you can enjoy watching the birds at your feeders while remaining in the warmth of your home; perhaps with a cup of hot cocoa? By joining Project Feeder Watch you can assist the folks at Birds Canada and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in learning more about bird populations. It’s as easy as  1,2,3. One – Join Project Feeder Watch. Two – Count your feeder birds periodically throughout the season from November 14, 2020 – April 9, 2021. Three – Submit your counts online or by using the new Project Feeder Watch app. Resources are provided to help identify the birds.

You might consider this as a Christmas gift. Those making a minimum donation of $50 can choose to receive the quarterly magazine BIRDWATCH CANADA produced by Birds Canada.

You can join by making a donation of any amount to Birds Canada by visiting birdscanada.org/feederwatch, or phone 1.888.448.2473, or email pfw@birdscanada.org.

If this is the first time signing up you will receive a poster of common feeder birds, a calendar, last season’s results and the chance to explore bird data online. Additionally, you will be able to connect with other birders via the FeederWatch Canada Facebook group.

Researchers will compile the submitted observations which they will analyze to see how winter bird populations may be changing. Understanding long-term trends is important to conserving bird populations.
